Wild sign D Nate Prosser to 2-year extension (AP)

The Minnesota Wild have signed defenseman Nate Prosser to a two-year contract extension. The 25-year-old Prosser has six assists in 23 games for the Wild this season. The Wild are 14-7-2 with the rookie in the lineup, and coach Mike Yeo has praised his poise and ability to implement the new system that has been installed.

Wild Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

At first glance, Friday's Erik Christensen for Casey Wellman trade seems minor. But the bigger message was why Wild general manager Chuck Fletcher felt compelled to acquire Christensen, the skilled, out-of-favor New York Ranger.

"I have to manage assuming the worst," Fletcher said.

Fletcher was referring to skilled wingers Pierre-Marc Bouchard and Guillaume Latendresse, who are both sidelined with concussions.

Bouchard has been shut down since Jan. 4. Latendresse has played twice since Nov. 10 and is experiencing symptoms again after practicing Monday and Tuesday.

"We can't assume that Bouchard and Latendresse are going to come back," Fletcher said. "We're going to hope for the best, but we have to plan for the worst and that's a big reason for this move.

Jamie Benn lifts Stars over Wild 2-1 in shootout (AP)

Kari Lehtonen watched during pregame ceremonies as the Dallas Stars honored former goalie Ed Belfour, who led the franchise to its only Stanley Cup in 1999. Lehtonen went on give his best impression of Eddie the Eagle. Lehtonen made 33 saves in regulation and overtime, then denied two of three Minnesota skaters in the shootout as the Stars beat the Wild 2-1 on Saturday night.

Cogs wishes he’d been here for Gags’ big night (The Edmonton Journal)

In 2008, Sam Gagner had a front row seat for Andrew Cogliano’s record setting run that started on March 7 and ended a hard-to-fathom three overtime games later. When the tables turned this week, and Gagner was the talk of the NHL, Cogliano was keeping tabs from his new home in Anaheim.
